P1342

Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 1 - Output Stage (Solenoid Circuit)

MED SEVERITY

Porsche-specific electrical fault in the bank 1 VarioCam camshaft-adjustment solenoid output-stage/circuit. Unlike P1341 (a performance/implausible-signal fault), this points to the wiring or the solenoid coil itself rather than mechanical cam-chain wear.

SYMPTOMS

  • Check-engine light
  • Possible rough idle
  • Reduced performance
  • May be intermittent

LIKELY CAUSES

  • Failed camshaft oil-control (VarioCam) solenoid coil
  • Open, shorted or corroded solenoid wiring/connector
  • Loss of B+ supply or ground to the solenoid
  • DME output-stage fault (rare)

DIAGNOSIS STEPS

  • Measure solenoid coil resistance against spec
  • Inspect the connector and harness for corrosion or damage
  • Check B+ supply and ground at the solenoid
  • Command the actuator with a scan tool and watch response
  • Replace the solenoid if out of spec
