Position of Camshaft in Relation to Crankshaft, Bank 1

HIGH SEVERITY

Porsche-specific cam-to-crank correlation code for bank 1. The measured relationship between the bank 1 camshaft and the crankshaft is out of position - i.e. the cam timing has deviated. On the M96/M97 this usually accompanies VarioCam wear and chain stretch; a large deviation can indicate a serious timing error and warrants prompt investigation before driving hard.

SYMPTOMS

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running / misfire feel
  • Power loss
  • Cold-start rattle
  • Possible hard start

LIKELY CAUSES

  • Cam timing deviation from worn VarioCam actuator/wear pads
  • Stretched or jumped timing chain
  • Failed chain tensioner/guides
  • Sticking oil-control solenoid
  • Cam/crank sensor or reluctor fault

DIAGNOSIS STEPS

  • Compare commanded vs actual cam angle and cam-to-crank correlation in live data
  • Check oil level/condition and cam-control solenoid operation
  • Inspect timing chain for stretch and tensioner/guides for wear
  • Verify cam/crank sensors and reluctor wheels
  • Mechanically verify cam timing if deviation is large
