Camshaft Adjustment (VarioCam), Bank 2 - Signal Implausible

MED SEVERITY

Bank 2 (cylinders 4-6) counterpart to P1341 (Porsche fault 178). The VarioCam intake-cam adjustment on bank 2 is out of range or implausible. Same failure profile as bank 1: worn actuator wear pads and chains, sticking oil-control solenoid, or an oil-supply problem on the M96/M97 flat-six.

SYMPTOMS

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough idle
  • Slight power loss
  • Cold-start chain rattle

LIKELY CAUSES

  • Worn VarioCam actuator / chain-guide pads (bank 2)
  • Stretched cam chains
  • Sticking oil-control solenoid
  • Low or degraded oil
  • Wiring/connector fault

DIAGNOSIS STEPS

  • Read live bank 2 cam deviation
  • Check oil level/condition and grade
  • Clean or replace the bank 2 oil-control solenoid
  • Inspect VarioCam actuator/chains if deviation persists
  • Replace worn components as a set
