Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1)

MED SEVERITY

The bank 1 camshaft position sensor signal is implausible or out of range. The DME uses this signal for VarioCam control and cylinder identification; a poor signal can cause hard starts and cam-timing faults on the flat-six.

SYMPTOMS

  • Check-engine light
  • Hard start / long crank
  • Rough running
  • Possible stall

LIKELY CAUSES

  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Wiring/connector fault
  • Damaged or contaminated reluctor wheel
  • Cam-timing deviation affecting the signal

DIAGNOSIS STEPS

  • Inspect the sensor connector and wiring
  • Check the sensor air gap and reluctor condition
  • Compare cam signal in live data
  • Replace the sensor if out of spec
