The 987.2 9A1 DFI rail-pressure sensor is reading implausibly. This is the sensor Porsche specifically told technicians to check before replacing high-pressure fuel pumps during the Gen2 HPFP problems - a failing sensor mimics a failing pump. A drifting or faulty sensor corrupts the DME's fuel-pressure control loop.
SYMPTOMS
- Check-engine light
- Hard start / long crank
- Rough running or hesitation
- Possible reduced-power warning
LIKELY CAUSES
- Faulty or drifting fuel-rail pressure sensor
- Wiring/connector fault at the sensor
- Loss of reference voltage or ground
- HPFP problem skewing pressure (secondary)
DIAGNOSIS STEPS
- Compare rail-pressure sensor reading vs commanded and vs a known-good baseline
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring
- Check reference voltage and ground
- Test/replace the sensor before condemning the HPFP
- Re-check rail-pressure control after replacement
